CCTV Lens Field-of-View, Coverage & Pixel-Density Planner

Compare a manufacturer HFOV or active-sensor estimate against exact scene width, target distance and horizontal pixels, then plan an onsite validation before buying or drilling.

Will this CCTV lens cover the scene with enough planning detail?

Use the exact manufacturer horizontal angle when available. Otherwise use active sensor millimetres and focal length only as a thin-lens estimate. Coverage width and pixels per metre must both pass; a wide image alone is not enough.

Method

Coverage is 2 × distance × tan(HFOV/2); pixel density is horizontal pixels divided by physical scene width. The entered DORI value is a dated human-viewing planning reference, not a guarantee.

Important limitation

Lens distortion, crop, mounting angle, lighting, motion, compression, focus and analytics can change real results. Test the exact camera in live view and follow local privacy rules.
