Portable Power Station Capacity, Load & Runtime Planner

Separate continuous watts, startup surge, usable watt-hours and target runtime before comparing a portable power station.

What size portable power station do I need?

Check four things separately: simultaneous running watts, the largest startup event, usable battery energy after entered losses, and runtime for your schedule. One advertised number cannot answer all four.

Method

Usable Wh = rated Wh × entered DoD × entered efficiency. Required Wh adds each load's watts × hours × duty cycle plus entered output overhead. Continuous and startup watts are checked independently.

Important limitation

Cycling appliances need measured energy over a representative interval. Exact startup waveform, automatic shutoff, temperature and battery age remain unknown until the exact model is tested.

Use the four gates, not a product badge

A station can have enough watt-hours but fail startup surge, or enough inverter watts but miss the desired runtime. The binding constraint tells you what to verify in a written quotation.
